The Object Edition on Evolving Forms
The Object Edition covers Evolving Forms at St Vincents, setting out the nine table configurations and the sources behind the Brace and Five Points names.
The Object Edition publishes a piece on Evolving Forms, the first solo show by Studio Goons, at St Vincents in Antwerp.
It introduces the studio as the partnership of Mia Kim, whose work as a designer and creative editor for Parisian fashion houses spans several disciplines, and Paul Trussler, an architect who trained under Frank Gehry, and reads the practice as bridging architecture, fashion and sculpture through an artisanal approach balancing simplicity and precision.
On the work, it sets out a dining set of three tables that configures nine different ways, alongside stools, benches and chairs with cushions in Italian pure wool, all in birch plywood. It cites the three and a half hour bench, built quickly before a dinner party when the studio found itself short of seating, as an earlier instance of the same instinct.
The piece sets out how the works are named. Brace refers to bracing systems in architecture. Five Points refers to Le Corbusier's free plan and pilotis.
It also describes the gallery. St Vincents was founded in 2016 by Henri Delbarre and Geraldine Jackman, in a converted printing house dating to the 1700s, and works across contemporary and collectible design with an emphasis on craftsmanship and provenance.
