Five Points Table (Large)
The Five Points Table (large) is a dining table for eight to ten, designed for the solo exhibition Evolving Forms at St Vincents in Antwerp.
It is the largest piece in a modular dining ensemble of three tables, a console and two dining tables, configurable in nine distinct arrangements to accommodate shifting uses and environments, from dining and work to play.
The name refers to Le Corbusier’s Five Points of Modern Architecture, and to the free plan and the pilotis within them. Lifting a building onto pilotis separated structure from enclosure and released the plan from the position of its walls. At two metres that permission stops being conceptual. A table this long asks for either a deep rail or a support in the middle. Placing the supports by load rather than by convention keeps it open underneath.
The top runs across as a single uninterrupted plane. Everything below it is set by where the weight travels and where people sit.
Hand-built and hand-finished in our atelier in Paris. The laminated edge is left exposed at every cut, read as rhythm and as a record of the build.
This is the largest table we make as a catalogue piece, and the one most often specified for a dining room drawn around it. The Five Points Table is also made in a medium size, and the Five Points Console completes the ensemble.
