Truss Console (Petit)
The Truss Console (petit) was conceived on a whim, and has since become a staple of the studio. This is the original size and the first of the two.
The necessity for a new piece arose during a photoshoot, when we needed to add an item in the background of a shot. We gathered and stacked various parts and study pieces from around the studio to fashion a temporary stool. The silhouette held, so we kept it. From there the work was subtraction, refining the proportions by removing everything non-essential.
The name comes from a critical architectural component. A truss is a framework of members arranged so that load resolves through the geometry itself rather than through the mass of any single element. Its structure is tectonically straightforward, and nothing about how it stands is concealed.
At this scale the piece is deliberately compact. The reduced depth lets it work in a hallway or beside a bed where the larger version will not fit, and the lower height changes how it is used. It is as much a bedside table as a console or stool.
It is a prime example of our multifunctional typology. The same object serves as a console table, a bedside table, stool or an entryway piece, and it is specified for all three. Nothing about it is dedicated to one room.
Made in birch plywood and hand-finished in our atelier in Paris. The exposed edge is kept visible rather than covered with a veneer.
