Truss Console (Grand)
The Truss Console (grand) is the larger of two consoles built on a truss structure. It was made for a commission that needed the original at a greater size, and it stayed in the catalogue.
The console was conceived on a whim. The necessity for a new piece arose during a photoshoot, when we needed to add an item in the background of a shot. We gathered and stacked various parts and study pieces from around the studio to fashion a temporary stool. The silhouette held. From there the work was subtraction, refining the proportions by removing everything non-essential. That first piece is the Truss Console (petit).
The name comes from a critical architectural component. A truss is a framework of members arranged so that load resolves through the geometry itself rather than through the mass of any single element. The structure is tectonically straightforward and entirely legible. At room scale the piece changes what it can do.
It is a prime example of our multifunctional typology, usable as a console table, a bedside table or an entryway piece. It has been built taller and deeper as a commission more than once, which the geometry accepts without redrawing.
Made in birch plywood and hand-finished in our atelier in Paris. The laminated edge is left exposed rather than covered, which is the more honest account of how the piece is made.
