Entry Column
The Entry Column is a pedestal by Studio Goons designed for the function of displaying objects or collecting things.
We made it because we wanted one. There was no surface at our own door for the things that accumulate at the transition between outside and inside, and nothing we found was resolved enough to keep. The references are architectural; columns, podiums and pedestals rather than furniture. That gives the piece a sculptural stature, taller than a hall table and closer to a plinth, which is the point. It reads as a column.
What it holds changes what it is. A ceramic, a sculpture, a single book, or a set of keys at the end of a day. It was designed for an entryway and is resolved enough to stand anywhere in a house. The form emerges from that incidental condition as much as from intention. It was created during a photo session at the studio. Mia arranged some prototype pieces and some scrap samples into a tall table to complement some other pieces we were shooting.
It sits alongside our M Capsule work, and relates directly to Totem 01, our first podium designed for a house rather than an exhibition. Our background includes a lot of exhibition work, where we built displays for art and sculpture. These pieces let people arrange their own rooms the same way and elevate important objects in their lives.
Studio Goons is a Paris-based collectible furniture and design atelier founded in 2020 by architect Paul Trussler and designer Mia Kim. Every design starts from wanting to live with the piece ourselves. If we would not want it in our home, it does not leave the studio.
