MM Stool
The MM Stool is a compact stool by Studio Goons in birch plywood, with a seat referencing the workshop material production process.
It is a response to the intermediary step of furniture construction. Material gets cut, then stacked in the workshop while it waits, and those stacks make a repeating geometric shape. We had liked looking at them for years before we made anything from them. The seat is that stack, resolved. Components are cut at 45 degrees and assembled so the pattern runs through the whole block. Because the angle cuts vary, every side and every corner of the stool is different. The variation is a product of the process rather than a decision. Incidental detail like this is where most of our work starts. We are not looking for a new form. We are looking at what our own methods already produce and asking how can this be finished.
The proportion is deliberate. Small enough to be carried between rooms, weighty enough to hold a corner rather than float in it. That balance is what makes it usable as a seat, a side table or a small coffee table without being obviously any of them.
The MM Stool and the M Console together form the M Capsule, a group built entirely around celebrating our own constructive process. Studio Goons is a Paris-based collectible furniture and design atelier founded in 2020 by architect Paul Trussler and designer Mia Kim. Every work is made to order and hand-built by us, signed and numbered. Standard finishes include dark oak, noix, oak, wenge, butterscotch, natural satin, oak stripes, black satin and white wash.
