Sheet Good publishes a feature on the M Collection, setting out the four pieces, the edge detail that names them and the studio's beginning in Paris in 2020.
Sheet Good, a publication devoted to plywood design and fabrication, publishes a feature on the M Collection, the capsule Paul Trussler and Mia Kim develop out of a process first refined while making components for another collection.
The article sets out four pieces: the M Console, the MM Stool, the Entry Column and the TM Table. The M is the edge detail carried through the group, and the name follows from it. The console stands on two legs cut to that profile, with birch plywood stacked to form the top and a warm varnish finish. The MM Stool repeats the detail in its leg and takes a licorice or butterscotch cushion, or none at all. The Entry Column drops the accordion top of the console and stool for a flat surface at corner table height. The TM Table stacks two slabs.
The piece records the studio beginning in a Paris apartment in 2020 and picks up the point the studio makes about the name. The etymology suggests something brutish, which the work is not on inspection. It quotes the studio declining any particular -ism, and declining to misrepresent a material by adding paint to it.
It also records the studio's own account of its collectors: people looking for unique pieces with a lasting taste rather than mass-marketed designer furniture sensitive to trends. Studio Goons places the work through galleries and directly, and states a preference for work that is not kept behind a rope.
