Spill Table (Uni)

The Spill Table (uni) is a low coffee table by Studio Goons defined by continuous curvature, realised in a single unified finish. I

t began as a commission. The client wanted a low table that could be sat at, leaned against and moved around rather than only looked at, which meant every edge had to be resolved, not just the ones a hand normally finds.

The form develops through gradual transitions rather than angular intersections. Surface, edge and support come from one gesture, so the volume reads as a single body. Holding that continuity while keeping the proportions exact is the difficulty in the piece.

This is not a soft object. Curvature here is a formal decision, and every transition is set out and cut to a defined radius. Softness of line against precision of fabrication is the balance the table is built on. The shape of the first spill table was drawn directly on a sheet of material with the client right in their living room. We brought it back to the studio and refined the shape to what you see today.

The uni version carries one finish across the whole form. That emphasises material consistency and keeps the volume uninterrupted, which is the more restrained of the two readings we offer. The Spill Table (bi) separates the top and the base into two finishes instead.

Studio Goons is a Paris-based collectible furniture and design atelier founded in 2020 by architect Paul Trussler and designer Mia Kim. Every work is made to order and hand-built by us, signed and numbered. See also the Room Table, our other commissioned low table.
