Simple Table
The Simple Table is a dining table and desk by Studio Goons, designed to arrive at its form with nothing removed and nothing added.
The name describes the method rather than the result. Most reduction happens by subtraction: build the object, then strip it back until only the necessary remains. That produces a table that looks reduced. We wanted one that had never been anything else. So the premise was set first. Essential planes, essential edges, and a fabrication logic that could be built easily.
Proportion and material define the object because there is nothing else present to do it. All joinery is concealed, which keeps the lines uninterrupted and lets the form read as continuous. Emphasis falls on surface, edge and mass rather than on visible construction. This is the opposite decision to the Flat Pack Chair, and the two pieces are usually seen together, which makes the contrast deliberate.
Restraint here is structural, not stylistic. Simplicity is treated as a principle the table has to satisfy, and complexity would have been a signal that we had taken the wrong path. Complexity is a warning. Simplicity is confirmation. Four Flat Pack Chairs fit exactly around it.
Studio Goons is a Paris-based collectible furniture and design atelier founded in 2020 by architect Paul Trussler and designer Mia Kim.
