Double Bench
The Double Bench by Studio Goons carries on the studio’s language of the zigzag legs, and is one of the first pieces we made and sold. That makes it foundational. The proportions worked out on this bench set the rules the collection still follows. By building this bench, we built Goons.
The frame is simple. A single horizontal seat plane on four angular zigzag supports. No apron, no stretcher, no visible hardware. The geometry does the bracing and is the support. The proportions do not affect the strength and can be adjusted by commission.
Across a long span that leg has real work to do. It has to resist racking without any added member. The playfulness people read in the zigzag is a by-product of a structural and production decision, not the reason for it.
The studio began in 2020 with a bench. We had just moved into a new apartment in Paris, were hosting that evening, and did not have enough seating. Mia set a challenge: design and build a bench from whatever wood was on hand in three and a half hours, finished, painted, ready to sit on. Paul built it after hours at his architecture office. Mia painted it in the last hour. The guests sat on it later that night. That exercise contained everything the studio would become, and this bench is the line that came out of it.

Studio Goons is a Paris-based collectible furniture and design atelier founded in 2020 by Paul Trussler and Mia Kim. Every work is hand-built by us in Paris, signed and numbered.
