The Brace Chair A is the armchair in the Brace family by Studio Goons, extending the original chair’s bracing logic.

Adding arms to a chair is usually additive. A frame gets a bracket, a bracket gets a rail, and the silhouette accumulates. That approach was not available here, because the Brace Chair carries no applied members at all. Its side planes and back are the structure.

So the arms are not added. The side planes are extended. The same surfaces that carry the load continue upward until they arrive at arm height, which means the armrest is structural rather than attached. The chair reads as one continuous gesture from floor to arm.

That resolution is why this version took longer than the chair it came from. Lengthening a load-bearing plane changes where the forces gather, and the proportion had to be redrawn rather than scaled. The result is a chair with more presence and no more parts. Nothing about the armrest announces itself as a feature. It is simply where the structure ends.

The Brace family also includes the Brace Chair, the Brace Chair AC with cushions in pure Italian wool, the Brace Bench, and the Brace Stool. The bracing principle is tested at every scale in the group.

Studio Goons is a Paris-based collectible furniture and design atelier founded in 2020 by architect Paul Trussler and designer Mia Kim.
