End Table Chair
The End Table Chair by Studio Goons is a chair with an extended seat plane that works as a side surface.
It started as a functional question. What happens if a chair carries its own side table. Lengthening the seat plane produces an integrated platform that holds a notebook, a plate or a coffee, and removes the need for a second object next to the chair. That shifts the piece from single function to hybrid. It is seating and surface at once, and because the extended plane stays structurally continuous it does not read as a chair with something attached to it.
Four splayed legs establish the base. The splay is a structural requirement given the extended plane, and it introduces a subtle outward tension across the composition that the piece would not have with vertical legs. The geometry follows the load.
The configuration came out of available material offcuts, which is how a good number of our pieces begin. Economy of means is not a constraint we design around. It is the constraint that produces the design.
It has since become a recurring form in the collection, because a chair that resolves two functions without looking like a compromise turns out to be useful in a lot of rooms. It works beside a bed, at a desk, in a reading corner, or as an occasional chair that does not need a table brought to it.
