A bi-colour low coffee table commissioned for a private residence in Paris, drawn directly on the material in the client's living room.
A commission for a private residence in Paris. The brief was for a low coffee table that could be sat at and moved around rather than only looked at. The shape was drawn directly onto a sheet of material in the client’s living room, in the room the table was going to occupy, then brought back to the studio and refined into its final form.
The table is defined by continuous curvature. The form is composed through soft transitions rather than sharp intersections, so the structure reads as fluid while staying entirely controlled. Surface and supports follow a single gesture, which creates continuity across the volume.
The commission was made bi-colour, with two finishes separating the top from the legs. That separates the planes and makes the geometry easier to read without breaking the integrity of the form. The contrast is measured on purpose. It brings out material character without disrupting the cohesion of the piece, and deciding how far to push it was most of the work. Too little and the second finish looks like an inconsistency. Too much and the table reads as two objects stacked. The version settled on is closer to the restrained end.
