J Arm Chair, Galerie JAG, Paris
An armchair commissioned by Galerie JAG for its Paris gallery, developed with gallerist and interior architect Jessica Berguig.
A commission from Galerie JAG, the gallery founded by Jessica Berguig and arranged as an apartment in the 7th arrondissement, where rare twentieth-century furniture is shown alongside contemporary makers. Berguig works simultaneously as gallerist, collector and interior architect, directing interiors for private clients and brands across France, and JAG has exhibited throughout France.
The commission came out of a long working relationship. She wanted a chair for the gallery, and the design was arrived at collaboratively, moving between reference material and drawings until the form resolved. The chair was later shown by the gallery at the second edition of THÉMA in October 2024, held at the Hôtel de Guise in Paris, within a larger presentation of our work.
The chair explores how a few intersecting planes can create both structure and enclosure. The seat, back and extended arms form a precise architectural silhouette, giving the chair the presence of a sculptural armchair. Its base is composed of a solid vertical volume. It grounds the piece and hides the connection details between top and base, allowing the form to remain clean and uninterrupted. In line with our approach, the piece sits between architecture, furniture and sculpture. Made in birch plywood and hand-finished in our Paris atelier.
